Mekaran Dada's Temple, Dhrung

Dhrang is about 30 kilometers far from Bhuj. Dhrang is known for the Samadhi of a famous saint Mekaran Dada who died here. Mekaran Dada was born in the village Nani Khombhadi. He left his home at a loving age and finally settled down at Dhrang. He founded his Ashram in Dhrang. In this Ashram, he provided food and water to the poor people.
Mekaran Dada had a dog named Motio and a donkey named Lalio with whom he used to wander about in the Rann of Kutch to help the persons who need food and water. He had saved many lives from dying in the desert of thirst and hunger.
It is said that Mekaran Dada had took Samadhi along with his disciplines including the dog and the donkey at Dhrang in 1786. He served the people of Kutch and won their love. It was believed that Mekaran Dada was a creation of Lakshmanji. The Ahir community considers Mekaran Dada as God. A large fair is held every year on Magh Vad 14 (February-March).
